The “Biedermeier“ is often referred to as the period that brought forth the style that was the most “Viennese“. Waldmüller and Gauermann in painting, Raimund and Grillparzer in literature, Schubert and Strauss the Elder in music were artists who represent the Biedermeier. Typical of porcelain painting of this time were light, delicate floral patterns that look plain but at the same time very elegant on the white porcelain: a characteristic type of painting which is still carried on in the “Viennese” patterns at Augarten.
